Lock of Napoleon's Hair Fetches £9,000

A lock of Napoleon's hair, cut from the former Emperor's head after his death, has sold for NZ$19,000, nearly £9,000.

The New Zealand auction saw 40 pieces of Napoleon memorabilia fall under the hammer attracting bidders from England, France, Hong Kong and United States.

Napoleon died while in exile on the island of Elba, and the hair was cut from his head in 1821.

It was sold by Art + Object to a private collector in London.
